St. Joseph’s College and Visakha Vidyalaya reaffirmed their aquatic supremacy, successfully defending their titles at the MILO-sponsored 48th Sri Lanka Schools’ Aquatic Sports Championships, which concluded on Sunday.
In a remarkable display of prowess, St. Joseph’s College, captained by Navindhu Jayaneththi secured their 18th consecutive Boys Team Championship title with a total of 570 points, asserting their dominance in the competition. Meanwhile, Visakha Vidyalaya, led by the determined Kenuli
Krishnarajah, captured the Girls Team Championship for the third consecutive year, amassing an impressive 423 points over the five-day meet.
St. Peter’s College emerged as the Boys Runners-up, accumulating 317 points, while Mahamaya College clinched the Girls Team Runners-up position with a commendable tally of 311 points. Ananda College secured the third spot among the boys with 299 points, while Ladies’ College garnered 277 points to take the third position among the girls.
A separate battle ensued in the Mixed School Championship category, where Wattala Lyceum International School, under the guidance of coach Imran and captains Yonal de Silva and Shehanya Jayasinghe, showcased their mettle. The team triumphed for the sixth consecutive year, a testament to their consistent excellence. Gampaha Lyceum International School secured the Runners-up position with 229 points, closely followed by Stafford International School in third place with 152 points.
Ruwan Manawadu, the seasoned coach, guided St. Joseph’s College to their remarkable 18th triumph, cementing their legacy in aquatic sports. Meanwhile, Shehan Dias, at the helm of Visakha Vidyalaya’s coaching efforts since 2021, contributed to the team’s third consecutive victory, building upon Julian Bolling’s coaching success in 2019.
Notably, St. Joseph’s College also reigned supreme in the Junior Swimming category, clinching the championship with 271 points. Wattala Lyceum International School secured the Runners-up position with 136 points, while St. Peter’s College claimed the third spot with 101 points.
Visakha Vidyalaya emerged as double champions, securing the Junior Girls Title with 171 points, a testament to their emerging talent. Gampaha Lyceum International School earned the Runners-up position with 164 points, while Wattala Lyceum International School secured the third place with 142 points.
The MILO, Nestle Lanka PLC’s flagship brand, showcased its commitment to youth sports by sponsoring the championships for the consecutive 29th year, presenting trophies, medals, and certificates across five Age Group categories for both boys and girls.
