ASIAN GAMES 2023-Sri Lanka Beach Volleyball players in action today

The 19th Asian Games will begin today (19) in Hangzhou, China. Accordingly, women’s cricket, football, indoor volleyball and beach volleyball matches will be held from today.

At the Ningbo Banbianshan Beach Volleyball Center, the women’s team will represent Sri Lanka in the beach volleyball event starting today, which includes Chaturika Madhushani and Deepika Bandara. Taxila Niranjali is the coach of the team.

Chaturika is the captain of the team, and these two athletes won gold medals at the South Asian Games held in Nepal in 2019. The hope of these two athletes, who finished 5th at the Commonwealth Games, is to win medals for Sri Lanka.

The cricket is held in the T20 format joins this sports festival after 9 years. For the first time, cricket was included in the sports festival held in Guangzhou, China in 2010, and then it was included in the 2014 Incheon Sports Festival in South Korea.

The women’s cricket event, which will begin today with the participation of 8 teams, will be held at the University of Technology Cricket Ground in Sejang, and two matches are planned for each day. The final of the women’s tournament will be held on the 25th. As of last June 1, the 4 teams leading the ICC world rankings have directly qualified for the quarter-finals. Accordingly, India, Pakistan and Bangladesh join the tournament in the semi-finals along with Sri Lanka, Indonesia and Mongolia from ‘A’ group and Hong Kong and Malaysia from ‘B’ group enter the competition field in the preliminary round.

The first match of the Sri Lanka women’s team will be held on the 22nd with the team that wins the third place in the preliminary round. The men’s cricket matches are scheduled to be held from the 27th of this month to the 7th of October.

Even though the sports events started today, the opening ceremony of the sports festival will be held on the 23rd of this month.
