National Sevens Rugby team leaves for Asian Games

Sri Lankan Sevens rugby outfit left the Island early today (21 September) for the Asian Games 2023 which will take place in China from 24 to 26 of this month.

The Sevens outfit under Tharinda Ratwatte will play alongside Taipei and South Korea during the group stages. Former Royal skipper, CR and FC, Kandy SC and national player Dushantha Lewke will be the Head Coach of the outfit taking over from Nilfer Ibrahim for the shorter version of the game.

Speaking to media , Sri Lanka national skipper Tharinda Ratwatte said, “We been together for about one month. Many of the senior players are not available for this tour. It gives a good opportunity for the juniors to win their national Jersey and perform to their best of their ability.
