Captain Dasun Shanaka got injured in Sri Lanka’s last match against Pakistan, and now Chamika Karunaratne will take his place in the World Cup squad. Shanaka’s injury will take about three weeks to heal. The replacement of a player requires the approval of the ICC’s Event Technical Committee before a new player can be officially added to the squad.
Karunaratne is a similar replacement for Shanaka. He’s an all-rounder who can bowl and bat down the order. While Shanaka is known for his batting skills, Karunaratne is more known for his bowling and batting. He was already with the team as a backup player and will be ready to play in Sri Lanka’s upcoming match against Australia on Monday.
