Australia registered their first win in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 by defeating Sri Lanka with a 5-wicket victory at Ekana Cricket Stadium. Sri Lanka’s new skipper, Kusal Mendis, won the toss and elected to bat first. Pathum Nissanka and Kusal Perera built a 125-run partnership before Pathum fell to Pat Cummins. Adam Zampa’s brilliant spell earned him four crucial SL wickets. Sri Lanka scored 209 runs before being all out in 43.3 overs.
In response, Sri Lankan bowler Dilshan Madushanka took three wickets, providing some hope for Sri Lankan fans. However, Australia chased down the target with 88 balls to spare. Mitchell Marsh and Josh Inglis scored 52 and 58 runs, respectively.
