Sri Lanka para athletes reached Hangzhou in Chaina on last Tuesday for their major event Asian Para Games which will commence from October 22. The Sri Lanka team comprised 26 players left to China in two batches and all athletes are in Asian Para athletic village and they were scheduled to take part at the opening ceremony on October 22.
Sri Lanka team led by Paralympic gold medalist Dinesh Priyantha Herath said not only the gold medal but also he has an idea to set up World Record in his Javelin throw event.
Both myself and Samitha Dulan took gold and silver at Bejing Paralympics and once again both of us confident to win medals. However we never underestimate any opponent, added Dinesh Priyantha Herath.
Once again I am honour to take National flag at the opening ceremony and itβs really a proud moment for me and we all para athletes are very well focused this Games, added Dinesh Priyantha Herath.
Last Asian Para Games which was held in Jakarta in 2018 Sri Lanka para athletes took 15 medals and this time they expect more medals then last games.
The two renown coaches Pradeep Nishantha and Harijan Ratnayake also accompanied the Sri Lanka team while team head Chief de Mission Lt Colonel Deepal Herath is also with the team in this seven day event.
Apart from the Athletic Sri Lanka already focused on Table Tennis, Badminton and Swimming medals and all players are confidant to do their best, added skipper Dinesh.
Actually this could be the Dinesh Priyantha Herath β s last Asian Para Games and his experience is a big boost to compete his event.
Palitha Bandara the Commonwealth Games bronze medalist from Discuss throw this time will take part Shot Put event but he also expected to grab a medal from his Shot Put event. I started my sport from Shot Put and became the best athlete after set up new Army para Games record and once again get chance to do Shot Put event, added Palitha Bandara. The Sri Lanka para athletes Games will start from October 21 perior to opening ceremony.
