Batting first, Sri Lankan batsman Charith Asalanka smashed 108 runs with 6 fours and 5 sixes before falling to Tanzim Hasan Sakib. It was an unlucky moment for all Sri Lankans when Angelo Mathews was timed out; he became the first batter to be dismissed in this manner in International Cricket. However, Sri Lanka managed to post a total of 279 runs before being all out in 49.3 overs.
Chasing the challenging target, Shakib Al Hasan and Najmul Hossain Shanto built a brilliant 169-run partnership for Bangladesh. Dilshan Madushanka took 3 wickets for Sri Lanka and was the leading wicket-taker in the tournament. In the 41.1 overs, Bangladesh successfully chased down the target easily.
