D.A.D.G. Peramune from Vidyaraja Vidyalaya, Ratnapura, representing Uva Province, clinched victory in the 21km half marathon at the All-Island Schools Games 2023 in Galle on Saturday. Peramune completed the challenging course in 1 hour, 16 minutes, and 22 seconds, showcasing a dominant performance among the 300+ participants.
S. Keeran of Mulankavil Maha Vidyalaya, Kilinochchi, hailing from the Northern Province, secured the second position, finishing exactly one minute behind Peramune. E.G. Lasitha Pradeep of Ukpitiya Maha Vidyalaya, Uva Province, claimed the third spot with a time of 1 hour, 18 minutes, and 13 seconds.
The following runners in the top ten included E.A. Hasindu Dhananjaya of Bandaranaike Central, Veyangoda (1.20:07), S. Kudiharshidan of Hindu National School, Matale (1.20:32), B. Sahirdan of Kalaimagal National School, Ratnapura (1.20:48), B. Abhishek of Diyabowakapura Vidyalaya (1.20:51), R.B. Randika Jasith of Walagampura Vidyalaya (1.21:06), K.N. Indura Dhananjaya of Wangiyapura National School (1.21:26), and R.M. Aravinda Ratnayake of Girandurukotte Central (1.22:10), finishing one after another.
Nestlé Nestomalt, in collaboration with the Ministry of Education, sponsored the All-Island School Games 2023 marathon event, concluding successfully in Galle. The marathon marked a pivotal moment in this year’s All-Island Schools Games, with over 300 runners participating in the half marathon and 1400 in a display marathon of 5km.
Ruwan Welikala, the Director of Nestlé Lanka’s Dairy, expressed pride in supporting Sri Lanka’s young athletes and emphasized the brand’s commitment to contributing to positive changes in families and communities through continued participation in such events. (SJ)
