Virat Kohli is often seen as the pioneer in making fitness a priority in Indian cricket. The former Indian is known to take his health and fitness as seriously as he takes batting. During the IND vs NZ semifinal in the ODI World Cup 2023, the star batter was seen wearing a peculiar-looking band on his wrist.
Not only he, but his teammates Shreyas Iyer, Mohammed Siraj, and Suryakumar Yadav have only been wearing similar-looking black bands on their wrists. That begs the question: What are these bands, and what benefit do they provide to cricketers?
These bands come from a brand called ‘Whoop’. The purpose behind these bands is to monitor the strain/stress you are putting on your body, your recovery process, and the amount and quality of your sleep.
Why are Virat Kohli and other Indian cricketers using ‘Whoop’?
The fascinating thing is that none of the Indian cricketers are getting paid to use these fitness bands. Instead, they are using them because ‘whoop’ is considered to be one of the best when it comes to performance tracking accuracy. As cricketers and athletes, players need to track every move they make and what it amounts to.
