Former Sri Lanka Cricket captain Sanath Jayasuriya is set to become a ‘Full Time Cricket Consultant’ for Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC), reliable sources of SLC revealed yesterday.
Jayasuriya’s role will involve providing his insights in strategy planning, technical aspects, as well as training, coaching and overall development of the national team.
As SLC high performance Consultant he has to overlook all high-performance unit duties. Sanath Jayasuriya is the Brand Ambassador of the Tourist Ministry and a former member of the National Selection Committee and this time his name was not forwarded for the National Selection Committee list which is headed by General Shavendra Silva.
However, it is reported that the Executive Committee members are yet to approve this proposal. It is also learnt that Jayasuriya had sought a monthly package of Rs.5 million for his services.
Meanwhile new selection committee headed by Upul Tharanga also not yet confirmed by the Sports Minister and SLC also awaiting approval for the new cricket selection committee.
