Everyone witnessed the Afghanistan Team’s all-round performance as they defeated Sri Lanka by 3 runs in the third T20I match at RDICS in Dambulla.
After winning the toss, Afghanistan elected to bat first and managed to score 209/5 in their allotted 20 overs. Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Hazratullah Zazai scored 70 and 45 runs respectively for the Afghanistan innings. For Sri Lanka, Matheesha Pathirana and Akila Dananjaya each took 2 wickets, while skipper Wanindu Hasaranga claimed one.
Chasing the mammoth target, Sri Lanka’s opener, Pathum Nissanka, scored 60 runs before retiring hurt at 8.3 overs. After his departure, Sri Lanka lost their middle-order wickets at regular intervals. However, Kamindu Mendis provided some hope for the Sri Lankan fans with a superb knock, scoring an unbeaten 65 runs, including 7 fours and 2 sixes. Eventually, Sri Lanka managed to score only 206 runs in 20 overs. Despite this loss, Sri Lanka won the T20 series 2-1.
