Despite some key players in the form of Kusal Perera and Wanindu Hasaranga missing the first T20I of the series, Sri Lanka (SL) managed to beat Bangladesh (BAN) by three runs. With the bat, Kusal Mendis (59 off 36) and Sadeera Samarawickrama (61* off 48) played some brilliant cricket while Charith Asalanka played a ruthless knock of unbeaten 44 off 21 to help Sri Lanka post 206 runs on the board.
Their brilliant batting performance should give them confidence ahead of the second T20I on March 6 at Sylhet. However, Bangladesh too put up a show with the bat in the second innings. Mahmudullah and Jaker Ali made 54 and 68 runs respectively as their partnership kept the Bangla Tigers alive in the competition. However, the other batters failed to step up.
