The first match of IPL 2024 began with defending champions Chennai Super Kings facing Royal Challengers Bangalore at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.
RCB skipper Faf du Plessis won the toss and elected to bat first. Du Plessis scored 35 runs before being dismissed by Mustafizur Rahman. CSK’s Ajinkya Rahane and Rachin Ravindra took an unbelievable catch to dismiss King Kohli for 21 runs. Mustafizur Rahman’s superb spell earned him 4 wickets, but a 95-run partnership between Dinesh Karthik and Anuj Rawat helped RCB post a total of 173 runs.
CSK began their innings with Ruturaj Gaikwad (15) and Rachin Ravindra (37) but RCB managed to claim 4 wickets. However, Shivam Dube and Ravindra Jadeja’s contributions guided CSK to victory with 8 balls to spare, with Dube scoring 34 runs and Jadeja adding 25 runs to the total. Cameron Green was the pick of the bowlers for RCB, claiming 2 wickets.
