Sun Risers secured a dramatic win over Mumbai Indians in a high scoring game in the IPL 2024 in Hyderabad
In a historic innings, Sun Risers Hyderabad achieved the highest-ever score of 277 runs in IPL history, surpassing the previous record of 263 runs set by RCB. They defeated the Mumbai Indians by 31 runs in the eighth match of IPL 2024.
The historic match began with Mumbai Indians winning the toss and opting to field first. Sunrisers Hyderabad’s batting unit showcased their strength as they posted 277/3 in their allocated 20 overs. Abhishek Sharma smashed 50 runs in 16 balls, while Heinrich Klaasen’s unbeaten 80 runs helped them reach this massive total.
Chasing the massive target, Mumbai Indians fought hard and came close to victory. Tilak Varma was the highest scorer for Mumbai, who scored 64 runs off 34 balls. Eventually, the Mumbai Indians could only manage to score 246/5 in their 20 overs.
What a game it was though. Over 500 runs scored – the most in any T20 match, and 38 sixes hit – also a record. The highest team total in an IPL match, a record that stood tall for 11 years in the name of Royal Challengers Bengaluru, was breached and rather comfortable as SRH pummelled 277/3. MI responded with the highest IPL total in a chase but it clearly wasn’t enough and the five-time champions fell short by 31 runs.
