South Africa Women beat Sri Lanka Women by 7 wickets

South Africa Women registered a convincing win over Sri Lanka Women in the second ODI of the three-match series at Kimberley.

Having won the toss, South African skipper Laura Wolvaardt invited the visitors to take first lease of the wicket at Diamond Oval Grounds in Kimberley.

Sri Lanka skipper Chamari Athapaththu once again managed to provide a good start chipping in with a vital half-century at the top of the order.

The middle-order batters Hansima Karunaratne (33), Kavisha Dilhari (42) and Nilakshika Silva (36) also got good starts but weren’t able to convert them to something substantial as they were restricted to 229.

Nadine de Klerk and Ayabonga Khaka starred with the ball for the hosts, scalping 3 wickets each.

Sri Lanka started brilliantly in their turn with the ball, picking up 2 quick wickets for 27 runs. The skipper Wolvaardt and Sune Luus steadied the ship for the hosts, adding 59 runs for the third wicket before Inoka Ranaweera break the partnership.

Wolvaardt and South African No. 5 batter Marizanne Kapp then built a game-changing partnership for the 4th wicket taking the game away from the visitors.

The duo added unbeaten 147-run stand as the hosts crossed over the line quite convincingly in the 48th over with 7 wickets in hand. Wolvaardt top scored for South Africa with a brilliant century while Kapp contributed with vital 80 runs.

Sri Lanka will take on South Africa in the third and final game of the three-match ODI series on the 17th April at Potchefstroom.
