It was an unbelievable moment for the Royal Challengers Bengaluru as they secured a spot in the playoffs with an impressive 27-run victory over the Chennai Super Kings at their home ground in Bengaluru.
Asked to bat first, Virat Kohli and Faf du Plessis started the Royal innings. After the third over, the match was stopped due to rain. If the match had been abandoned, the Chennai Super Kings would have qualified for the playoffs, but luckily, it did not happen.
After the rain, the pitch was great for spinners, and the Royal Challengers struggled to score runs. The Chennai Super Kings took advantage and claimed the first wicket in 9.4 overs. Kohli and du Plessis scored 47 and 54 runs respectively in the innings. For the third wicket, Cameron Green and Rajat Patidar’s superb 71-run partnership off 28 balls helped post 218/5 in 20 overs for the Royal Challengers.
Chasing the target, Glenn Maxwell took the first wicket of Chennai Super Kings in the first ball of the first over. After that, Rachin Ravindra played a superb knock and gave some hope to Chennai fans, but unfortunately, he was out for a miscommunication run-out after scoring only 61 runs. However, the Chennai Super Kings only needed to score 200-plus runs to secure a spot in the playoffs. In the last moment, the Chennai Super Kings needed only 10 runs from 2 balls to qualify, but Yash Dayal’s superb two dot balls secured victory for the Royal Challengers Bengaluru by 27 runs.
Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s hopes are still alive as they prepare to face Sunrisers Hyderabad in the Eliminator on 22nd March.
