After 12 years, Kolkata Knight Riders clinched their third IPL trophy by defeating Sunrisers Hyderabad by 8 wickets at MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai.
The final match began with the Sunrisers skipper winning the toss and opting to bat first. The Sunrisers made this decision to set a mammoth target for Kolkata. However, in the early overs, Sunrisers lost their opening wickets quickly, diminishing their hopes as Kolkata Knight Riders restricted them to 113 in 18.3 overs. Skipper Pat Cummins was the highest scorer for the Sunrisers, with 24 runs. Andre Russell took 3 wickets, Mitchell Starc and Harshit Rana took 2 wickets each, and other bowlers each claimed a wicket for Kolkata.
Chasing the smallest target in IPL Finals history, Venkatesh Iyer played an unbeaten 52 runs in just 26 balls, helping Kolkata Knight Riders to chase down the target with 57 balls to spare.
