The first match of the Lanka Premier League 2024 between the Kandy Falcons and Dambulla Sixers took place at Pallekele International Cricket Stadium.
Asked to bat first, the Dambulla Sixers started their innings with Danushka Gunathilaka and Kusal Perera. Dambulla lost their first four wickets at regular intervals, but Mark Chapman (91*) and young player Chamindu Wickramasinghe (62*) built an unbeaten 154-run partnership for the fifth wicket, taking Dambulla’s total to 179/4. For Kandy, Dasun Shanaka delivered some magical spells and took 3 wickets for 20 runs.
In reply, Kandy Falcons opening batter Dinesh Chandimal scored a quick 65 runs before falling to Akila Dananjaya. After losing a few more wickets, Angelo Mathews and Dasun Shanaka finished the game with 16 balls to spare. Mathews and Shanaka remained unbeaten, scoring 37 and 46 runs respectively.
