Jaffna kings recorded their first victory in the fifth Edition of Lanka Premier League 2024 when they beat Dambulla Thunders by 4 wickets here in Pallekele.
Dambulla Thunders were put into bat by Jaffna Kings after winning the toss. They made 191 for 20 in their 20 overs.
Kusal Janisth Perera found his rhythm back again and Nuwanidu Fernando gave solid support from the other end. Both put up a 108 run partnership for the second wicket before Dhananjaya De Silva removed Nuwanidu Fernando for 40.
Kusal Janith recorded the first century in this year’s LPL. His 50 ball century included 10 fours and 5 sixers.
Mark Chapman made quick fire 33 (23 balls). KJP was unbeaten on 102.
In Reply Jaffna Kings got off to a flying start scoring 30 runs (3.4 overs) with more contributions from Pathum Nissanyka, yet again Kusal Mendis got out for just 6 runs.
Pathum also could not last for a long time he departed for 27 runs. No sooner Pathum’s departure Rilee Rossouw got out for 6 leaving JFK in all sorts of trouble.
Nevertheless Charith Asalanka and Avishka Fernando launched a massive attack over the Dambulla bowlers and built a record partnership of 136 runs for the fourth wicket to take Jaffna kings Home.
Asalanka made 50 and Avishka made 80.
It was a tense battle till the last over yet Jaffna pulled a thrilling victory.
