LPL 2024-Match 05, GAM v CLS: Galle Marvels cleaned up Colombo Strikers

Colombo Strikers (CLS) skipper Thisra Perera won the toss and decided to field first.
The two openers of Galle Marvels (GAM), Niroshan Dickwella and Alex Hales took on the ClS bowlers right from the very first over and Dickwella’s bat did the most of the talking.

They put up a 71 run partnership for the first wicket where Dickwella contributed with most of the runs before Hales departed off the bowling of Binura Fernando for 14. Dickwella also could not long as he was trapped by Shadab Khan when he was at the 50 run mark.

It was very unfortunate for Bhanuka Rajapaksha who ran out for no score and Marvels lost three quick wickets in a span of 6 runs. They continued to struggle as they lost wickets in regular intervals.

Isuru Udana and Sahan Arachchige came to the rescue of the Galle Marvels scoring 50 and 35 runs respectively to take the final score to 179 in their 20 overs.

Shadab Khan once again brilliance in bowling took 4 wickets for 21 runs while Binura Ferenado grabbed 3 wickets for 22.

Chasing a target of 180 runs in 20 overs Colombo Strikers had a formidable task to face the Galle Bowling attack. They lost two wickets within the first power play. Muhammad Wasim and Shevon Daneil were back in the pavilion when the score read as 43 in 4.3 overs.

Afghanistan Opener Rahmanullah Gurbaz also could not live up to the expectations and only managed to score 29 leaving Galle’s chances little bitter.

Skiper Thisara Perera and Sadeera Samarawickrama scored 16 and 18 runs.

Glen Philips tried hard to bring his team to the track yet he only scored 26. No other batter could consolidate the Colombo inning.
Chamika Karunarathna and Dunith Wellalage was in a desperate effort to take the team out of jail. Wellalage was the top scorer for Colombo with 45 runs but it was not good enough to surpass Galle target and concluded the inning 172/8 with 7 runs short.
