The French Prosecutor’s Office has opened an investigation following death threats, personal data leaks, and discriminatory gestures received by some athletes from the Israeli delegation. In a statement released this Tuesday, the Paris Prosecutor’s Office informed that the Ministry of Interior submitted all the details to the justice system.
Regarding the leaked data, the Prosecutor’s Office stated: “Initially, the disseminated information has been removed from social media,” emphasizing that the priority now for security forces is to determine how the data was obtained. During the Israel-Paraguay football match, insulting gestures were seen in the stands along with various Palestinian flags.
The incidents prompting the investigations have been handed over to the Brigade for the Suppression of Crime against Individuals (BRDP), while the dissemination of personal data has been assigned to the Central Office for the Fight Against Cybercrime.
Israeli athletes are being guarded by Israel’s internal security service, providing them with 24-hour protection during the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
