The first Oneday International between Sri Lanka and India eneded in a tie game at the R Premadasa International Stadium on Friday.
Chasing a modest target of 231 runs to victory, Rohit Sharma and Subman Gill gave solid start for India by putting up 75 rins in 12.4 ovres. Gill departed when he was 16. Then two quick wickets were fallen as inform Rohit got out for 58 and followed by Washington Suindar for 5. Virat Kohli and Shreyes Iyer built partnetnership of 43 runs for the fourth wicket Kohli got out for 26 followed by Iyaer for 23 and Sri Lanka came back to the game restricting India for 132 for 5.
Axar Patel and KL Rahul build the Indian inning again but sending both of them back to the pavilion raised Sri Lanka’s hopes of victory. India lost several wickets afterwards as Sri Lanka fought back yet few chances went begging.
Sivam Dube held his bat firmly afterwards and took India to 231 before he got out for 25 . leaving India just one run for victory. Arshdeep Singh could not took India over the line as they all out for 230 runs leveling the Sri Lanka’s total
Dunith Wellalage came strong with the ball as he did with the bat by capturing two wickets
After deciding to take the first lease of the wicket Sri Lanka had the usual start losing Avishka Fernando for just one run. Pathum Nissanka and Kusal Mendis tried to consolidate Sri Lanka inning, yet Mendis departed for 14 when the score read 43. Since then Sri Lankan middle order collapsed once again loosing 5 wickets for just 105 runs in 26.3 overs.
Pathum Nissanka held his nerves and completed his half century before getting out as the fifth batter.
Chartith Asalkanka and Sadeera samarawickrama put 41 runs for the sixth wicket but could not make any big impact as both of the got out cheaply .
Dunith Wellalage gave some hope to Sri Lanka scoring his first ODI half century adding a partnership of 46 runs for the eight wicket with Akhiola Dhanajaya to take the Sri Lanka’s score to 224 runs. Welllage scored 67 not out. Sri Lanka made 230 for 8.
