IND v SL -2nd ODI: Sri Lanka win with a 32-run lead!

Jeffrey Vandersay and Charith Asalanka’s impactful spells shocked the Indian batting lineup and guided Sri Lanka to a thrilling 32-run victory over India at R. Premadasa International Cricket Stadium, Colombo.

Sri Lanka made two changes for the second ODI. One was Jeffrey Vandersay replacing Wanindu Hasaranga, who is out of the series with a hamstring injury. The other change was batting all-rounder Kamindu Mendis, who bowls spin, replacing the fast bowler Mohamed Shiraz, who made his debut in the first ODI.

The second ODI match began with Sri Lankan skipper Charith Asalanka winning the toss and electing to bat first. Pathum Nissanka was dismissed by Mohammed Siraj for a duck on the first ball of the Sri Lankan innings. After that, Avishka Fernando and Kusal Mendis built a 74-run partnership for the second wicket.

Indian bowler Washington Sundar took the wickets of both Mendis and Fernando, who scored 40 and 30 runs respectively. Sadeera Samarawickrama got out for 14. Skipper Charith Asalanka scored 25 off 42 balls with three fours. Dunith Wellalage once again stabilized the Sri Lankan innings by scoring 39 runs while Kamindu Mendis contributed a decent 40 runs, bringing the innings total to 240/9.

In reply, Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill scored a 97-run partnership for the first wicket. Jeffrey Vandersay broke India’s batting lineup by taking 6 wickets at regular intervals. He dismissed Rohit (64), Gill (35), Kohli (14), Dube (0), Shreyas (7), and KL Rahul (0). However, Charith Asalanka took 3 wickets, and Sri Lanka restricted India to 208 in 42.2 overs.
