Aruna Darshana advances to 400m semis of Paris Olympics with his PB

Sri Lankan sprinter Aruna Darshana has qualified for the semifinals of the Men’s 400m event at the 2024 Paris Olympic Games after finishing third in the Heat race.
Aruna Darshana has achieved a historic milestone by becoming the first Sri Lankan athlete in 24 years to advance to the Olympic 400m semi-finals. Competing in the preliminary round, Darshana clocked a time of 44.99 seconds, finishing 17th out of 46 runners and setting a new personal best for the season.

The semifinals which are scheduled to be held on Tuesday (Aug. 06) at 11.05 pm. Sri lanka time.

Aruna is also the first Sri Lankan sprinter since Sugath Thilakarathne’s performance in 1997 in Fukuoka, Japan, to run under 45 seconds.

Darshana also recorded the 17th fastest timing from the 44 sprinters that ran in the six heats conducted on Sunday. K

Kirani James (44.78) of Grenada placed first in Heat 5 while Canada’s Christopher Morales-Williams came second with a time of 44.96 seconds.
