After 27 years, Sri Lanka clinched an ODI series win over India in their home country.
Under the outstanding captaincy of Charith Asalanka, the first ODI ended in a tie, and Sri Lanka went on to win the second and third ODI matches.
In the third match, Sri Lanka won the toss and elected to bat first. Sri Lanka posted 248/7 in their allotted 50 overs, thanks to outstanding performances with the bat from Avishka Fernando (96), Pathum Nissanka (45), and Kusal Mendis (59). Debut player Riyan Parag was the highest wicket-taker for India, taking 3 wickets.
Chasing the modest target, Sri Lankan bowlers applied pressure on the Indian batters, putting them in trouble while making runs. Indian skipper Rohit Sharma and Washington Sundar were the highest scorers for India, scoring 35 and 30 runs respectively. Dunith Wellalage displayed his best ODI figures, taking 5 wickets for 27 runs.
Eventually, Sri Lanka restricted India to 138 in 26.1 overs and won the match by 110 runs.
