India restricted Pakistan to 105 for eight in their much-awaited ICC Women’s T20 World Cup match in Dubai on Sunday. Pakistan decided to bat first after winning the toss but they failed to get off to a good start and struggled through the innings. Nida Dar top-scored for Pakistan with 28 off 34 balls. The Indian bowlers maintained a tight line and length to stifle the Pakistan batters while picking up wickets at regular intervals. Off-spinner Shreyanka Patil (2/12) and Arundhati Reddy (3/19) grabbed five wickets between them.
Fatima won the toss and opted to bat first in the afternoon heat. India made one change to the XI with Pooja Vastrakar out with a niggle and Sajana Sajeevan coming in. Pakistan were also forced into a change
India have to recover quickly after a heavy defeat against New Zealand in their opening fixture while Pakistan pulled off an impressive win against Asia Cup champions Sri Lanka.
India also suffered a heavy dent to their Net Run Rate because of the margin of defeat against New Zealand. With Australia still to come later in this group, India simply cannot afford a slip up in Dubai against Pakistan.
