Sri Lanka outplay Malaysia to strengthen semi-final chance

Sri Lanka exhibited their strength in a dominant 72-40 win against two-time champions Malaysia at the 13th Asian Netball Championship 2024 at the Koramangala Indoor Stadium in Bangalore, India. The two unbeaten sides met in the final game of day 6 to decide who would finish top of group A.

The match commenced with Sri Lanka establishing early control and swiftly building a lead. Although Malaysia displayed resilience and attempted to score consecutive goals, Sri Lanka concluded the first quarter with a score of 11-8 in their favour.

During the second quarter, Sri Lanka elevated their performance, limiting Malaysia’s scoring opportunities and finishing the half with a substantial lead of 40-22.

In the third quarter, Sri Lanka brought in Thisala Algama to pursue quick points. This tactic proved effective, allowing them to extend their lead to 56-35 by the end of the quarter.

With a 21-point cushion, Sri Lanka maintained their dominance in the final quarter, ultimately finishing the match with an impressive score of 72-40.

This victory marked their fourth consecutive win, significantly enhancing their prospects for a semi-final berth.

Sri Lanka’s upcoming challenge will be against the Maldives in their final group match tomorrow.
