After their first ODI win, Sri Lanka is confident about securing a victory in the second ODI at the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium, Kandy.
After winning the toss, Sri Lanka opted to bowl first. Mark Chapman and Mitchell Hay contributed 76 and 49 runs respectively to New Zealand’s innings.
Rain interrupted the Black Caps’ innings, reducing the match to 47 overs. Despite the interruption, New Zealand managed to post a total of 209 before being bowled out in 45.1 overs. Jeffrey Vandersay and Maheesh Theekshana each claimed three wickets for Sri Lanka.
In reply, New Zealand’s bowling attack delivered strong spells, taking Sri Lanka’s wickets at regular intervals. Michael Bracewell showcased his best performance in ODIs, claiming four wickets.
However, Kusal Mendis and Maheesh Theekshana’s crucial unbeaten 47-run partnership led Sri Lanka to chase down the target with 6 balls to spare. Kusal Mendis scored an impressive 74* runs.
