Australia ended day one -311/6

By Brian Thomas.

Winning the toss electing to bat on a placid Melbourne surface , that too , in the company of 90 000 spectators and millions of television eye balls, Australia enjoyed a better stake at lunch on 112 for 1 wicket in 25 overs.

19 year old Test debutant Sam Konston took Jasprit Bumrah, the worlds best bowler round the park, and the fiery Indian seamer was confused if he was bowling the right length, or is this kid an overnight sensation.

Bumrah bowls length deliveries with the new ball because of the on slaught he bowled yorkers and was flicked off his pads by the 19 year old , suddenly India realised this batter is not an over night sensation but a new star in the making.

Sam Konston’s 92.31 strike rate came to an end when Jadeja now rated as a batting all-rounder got a delivery to straighten and trapped the youngster for 60 Lbw before the mid break.

The second session was shared as both Usman Kawaja and Marnus Labuchange were restricted by tight and deceplined bowling , however, the Indians accounted for just one scalp that of Khawaga for 57 hence at Tea Australia were 176 for 2 wickets.

The 3rd session was great to watch, absorb, and hear the drums as India accounted for 4 scalps, dismissing Labuchange for 72 , and Steve Smith for 68 whilst having secured the prize wicket of Travis Head for no score bowled by a Jasprit Bumrah yorker.

Alex Carey impressed as expected scoring 31 , whilst Mitchell Marsh was out for 4 runs giving India the respite of the Home teams ambition of batting India out of the game with the score on 311 for 6 wickets at stumps.

Can the tail wag ? doubtful with the second new ball in the hands of the Indian trio led by Bumrah.

From a bowling perspective, Bumrah 3 for 75 , Akarsh Deep 1 for 59 Nitesh Reddy wicketless , Jadeja 1 for 50, and Washington Sundar 1 for 37 looks a decent bowling analysis, considering the fact that Australia at one stage were 237 for 2 wickets .
