Defending champs CR continue unbeaten run

CR and FC pulled off a magnificent win over Army Sports Club by 38 points (6 tries, 4 conversions) to 10 points (2 tries) in their Mastercard Inter Club Rugby encounter at Longdon Place under floodlights last evening.

At the short breather CR led 14/5.

The game was played at an electrifying speed pace with the Red Shirts combining well with their forwards and three quarters. Former Trinity scrum half, Rushen Bandaranayake starting for CR first time had an outstanding game. He spotted the gaps and his moves put the Army guessing all the times. Omalka Gunaratne, Thenuka Nanayakkara and Naveen Marasinghe were omnipresent. A few injury worries to Lasindu Karunathilake and Adeesha Weerathunge could be a concern for Head Coach Dushanth Lewke.

For Army they played well early in the first half but gave up in the second half with the speed of play by the hosts was too much of an asking but they came back late in the second half they scored a consolation try. Their forwards played their hearts out but lacked support from their three quarter line who ran out of ideas how to breach the Reds defence.

Reds scored their tries through Naveen Marasinghe (2), Gemunu Chethiya, Manilka Ruberu, Adeesha Weerathunge and Suhiru Anthony. Mursheed Doray converted 4 of them.

Meanwhile Army scored their tries through Vishal Kaplana and Dhanushka Thalwatte.

Referee was Aruna Shantha.
