Pakistani, Asif wins SAARC Snooker C’ship beating Sri Lanka’s Irahath Thaha

Three times World Snooker Champion Muhammad Asif of Pakistan clinched the SAARC Snooker Championship title when he beat Sri Lanka’s Irahath Thaha in the final played at the Moors SC billiard table on Friday (10).

His triumph at this competition enabled him to lift the late M.J.M. Lafir Memorial Trophy.

Asif, the current world champ, prevailed by five frames to nil in the nine-frame final and in the process totally outplayed his opponent from Sri Lanka.

From the outset, the Pakistani ace snooker player had used his expertise to clinch the silverware without breaking sweat.

Besides the trophy, the winner also received a cash award of $ 2500 while runner-up Thaha was presented with a cash award of $ 1500.

Earlier in the semis both Asif and Thaha emerged victors by the identical margin of five frames to three in the nine-frame affair. (The Morning)
