Sri Lanka Cricket AGM under new constitutional amendments on March 31

Acceptance of nominations for the Sri Lanka Cricket Official Election ends at 3.30 pm today, and the Election Committee has decided to hold the elections on March 31.

A five-member selection committee including retired Court of Appeal judge Ms. Malani Gunaratne conducts the cricket poll, and it is special that it is held this year under the new amendments to the cricket constitution.

Shammi Silva will enter the field of competition, and it is reported that his nomination for the position of chairman has been approved by 50 sports associations.

As the former cricket secretary Mr. Mohan de Silva left, it is said that there is a preparation to present a new face or acting secretary Mr. Krishantha Kapuwatta for that position only.

In the year 2023, Shammi Silva was elected unopposed to the post of President without a poll in the office election held for the administrative affairs of the Sri Lanka Cricket.

Concerned about the number of votes used in the cricket election, the Sri Lanka Cricket administration recently made a special amendment to the cricket constitution and took steps to reduce the number of voting members from 147 to 60.

In the special general meeting chaired by Cricket President Mr. Shammi Silva, the members unanimously approved the establishment of an audit committee, an investment and budget committee and a related transaction committee, strengthening the transparency of cricket financial management. Under that new administrative structure, the Sri Lanka Cricket elections will be held this year, and the official selection committee will make public the list of candidates for the upcoming Sri Lanka Cricket elections.

According to the existing cricket voting system, each member association had two votes, while the new voting structure will give eligible cricket clubs and federations one vote each.

The franchise is determined by taking into account the performance of inter-club cricket tournaments in Sri Lanka. And it is special to consider the infrastructure of those sports clubs and what kind of contribution they have made to the development of cricket.
