Australia recorded their highest Test innings in Asia scoring 654/6, thanks to Usman Khawaja’s double century.
At the end of a rain-affected opening day of the series, Australia was 330/2 in 81.1 overs. Skipper Steven Smith scored his third Test century in Sri Lanka, making 141 runs.
Josh Inglis contributed 100 runs as Australia crossed the 600-run mark in 142.4 overs. Prabath Jayasuriya and Jeffrey Vandersay were the only wicket-takers for Sri Lanka, claiming three wickets each.
In Sri Lanka’s innings, the first four wickets fell at regular intervals. However, at the end of Day 2 Dinesh Chandimal and Kamindu Mendis remained at the crease and Sri Lanka trail by 610 runs.
