Taavi Samaraweera, a 9 year old student of S.Thomas’ College Mt. Lavinia has achieved theWorld Ranking of 6th place in Table Tennis for his age group in Under 11. His previous best was 11th last year December.
This is the first time a Sri Lankan Table Tennis player across any age group (Senior or Junior) achieved a World Ranking within the Top 10. A young prodigy in the making, he has also risen from 67th to 33rd place among the U13 players in the World.
On the 2nd of February, he played in the Round of 16 at the U15 Boy’s Singles at the WTT Youth Star Contender in Doha, defeating the World No.4 in the U13 age group in one of his group stage matches.
He is coach by Hasitha Samaraweera, his father.
