HC hosts reception for Aussie cricket team

The Australian High Commissioner to Sri Lanka, Paul Stephens hosted a reception to welcome the Australian Men’s Cricket Team on 10 February.

The occasion was attended by representatives from the Sri Lankan Government, sporting and business community.

The event was an opportunity for Australians and Sri Lankans to come together and celebrate our shared sporting interests.

It marked the successful completion of the test series in Galle and preceded the ODI’s to be played in Colombo.

High Commissioner Stephens said: “It is a privilege to host the Australian team here in Sri Lanka, given the key role cricket plays as a binding and enduring part of our bilateral friendship. Our nations share a long cricketing history, which has included Australia’s support for Sri Lanka to be awarded test status in 1981, while Australia also featured in Sri Lanka’s famous victory in the 1996 Men’s world cup final.”

The event highlighted the passion Australians and Sri Lankans share for cricket and reinforced our longstanding bilateral ties across many sectors.
