(From Naveen Abeyratne in Rawalpindi)
Persistent rain at Rawalpindi forced to abandon the Championship match between Australia and South Africa today. The points were shared one each thus Wednesday’s match between England and Afghanistan turned out to be a knockout.

If any of them needs to stay in contention for a semi final birth, they’ll have to win on Wednesday.
The gloomy Rawalpindi sky remained unchanged when the players were anticipating some play. Unfortunately even the toss didn’t take place.
To constitute a One Day International, the least number of overs are 20. Play has to start at-least by 7.30 pm to finish a shortened game but hopes were far too away. The match was called off at 5.10 local time.
Australia and South Africa have won a game each before they share points in the second game. If they manage to win the last of their first-roundgames, both will secure placed in semifinals. However, an England win on Wednesday may have some curious scenarios.

It was a pity and a huge disappointment for Rawalpindi crowd since a much-anticipated close tussle was washed off. Usually, these two sides are the best in world cricket, when it comes to never say die attitude. South Africa has met Australia nine times in ICC events since 1992.
Australia have won four of them while South Africa won three. Also there is that famous tie in 1999 and now a complete wash out is also in the list.
