
The Sri Lanka Navy handball team emerged as champions of the 3rd National Handball Championship, which concluded last Monday at the Army Cantonment in Panagoda. The Navy team once again showcased their exceptional skill and teamwork to secure the title, with their team spirit being a key factor in this success.
The tournament, conducted by the National Handball Federation, was highly competitive, featuring seven teams. All teams displayed high-intensity matches and exceptional sportsmanship.
The Navy’s journey to the finals included a decisive win over Kotelawala Defence University (KDU) in the semifinals. The final, which pitted the Sailors against Army, ended in a thrilling finish, with the Navy maintaining their high level of skill to claim the title with a seven-point margin (41-34).
The tournament showcased several standout performances from the several players of the Sri Lanka Navy, who received individual awards and certificates for their achievements.
Petty Officer WR Weerasinghe was named Best Attacker, Petty Officer WHP De Silva won Best Defender, and Leading Seaman T.S De Silva was awarded Best Goalkeeper.
