Samitha Dulan finished fourth in the Men’s T44/64 event concluded in the World Para Athletics Championship 2019 in Dubai today.
Chaminda Sampath Hettiarachchi and Samitha Dulan were in action in the Men’s F44 Javelin throw on Friday (08) .
Both Sri Lankans had a good resistance from fellow Indian and Trinidad & Tobago athletes as expected. This event held with F46 and F43 category finals at the Dubai Club for People of Determination grounds at 6.00pm (Dubai Time). 13 athletes took part in the competition.
Sri Lanka expected these two athletes to register Sri Lanka’s mark by claiming a medal. Samitha Dulan able to record the best distance in his second attempt with 57.01m and finished fourth place . Chaminda Hettiarachchi recorded his best performance in the competition with a distance of 50.35m and that attempt only placed him at the 10th Place.
New World records
India’s S. Sandeep , the world record holder of the F44 event was the pick of the athletes in the start list with a distance of 65.80 as his season’s best and world record mark established in June this year.
Sandeeep continued to make his mark with another world record distance of 66.18m bettering his previous distance . That helped him to take the gold medal while his team mate S. Sumit also able to register a world record in F 64 event with a distance of 62.88m.
