Chamara Haputhanthri and Indeewari Wijetunga will lead the Sri Lankan men’s and women’s Kabbadi teams for the South Asian Games scheduled to be held from December 1 to 10 in Nepal. Both teams won the bronze medal in the last South Asian Games in India 2016 and are expected to go a step further.
Anura Pathirana the president of the Kabbadi Federation will accompany the teams as manager. “The teams had a good preparation and I think the women’s team has players that are more talented,” said Pathirana.
Sri Lanka’s men’s and women’s teams took part at the last Asian Games in Jakarta but returned with nothing.
The team’s are in better shape according to Pathirana with players in the likes of WAL Sampath and KNC Kumara.
In the women’s team TSGK Herath, WPMI Wijethilleka and WMD Wijetunga are experienced players with past SAG appearances.
Isuru Bandara will accompany the men’s team as head coach while Indika Sanath Kumara is the head coach of the women’s team.
