Shahid Afridi to return from Lanka Premier League to attend to ‘personal emergency’

Former Pakistan captain Shahid Afridi said on Wednesday that he is returning home from Lanka Premier League to attend to a “personal emergency”. Afridi led Galle Gladiators in 3 matches in the inaugural edition of the T20 tournament in Sri Lanka.

Shahid Afridi though said he would return to join his franchise at LPL 2020 after the situation back home is resolved.

Notably, Afridi had missed a flight to Sri Lanka last month and delayed his arrival for the Lanka Premier League.

Under Shahid Afridi, Galle Gladiators have not managed to win even one of their first 3 games. The Gladiators have 5 more matches in the 5-team league to battle and seal a place in the semi-finals.

Unlike other players who had undergone a 7-day mandatory quarantine period, Shahid Afridi was in isolation only for 3 days after arriving in Sri Lanka on November 24. He will likely be allowed to join the team after a similar quarantine period if and when he returns to Sri Lanka as he proved he already contracted the novel coronavirus and is unlikely to get reinfected.
