Dambulla Vikings beat Kandy Tuskers by 5 wickets in the 10th match of the My11Circle Lanka Premier League T20 Cricket Tournament today (03) at Hambantota.
Chasing a target of 157 for victory, the Dambulla Vikings were in deep trouble loosing 3 of their top order for 56 in the ninth over . Angelo Perera and skipper Dasun Shanaka added 79 runs in 48 balls to lay the foundation for the victory. Dambulla Vikings reached the target with 5 balls to spare with 4 balls to spare.
Angelo Perera hit 67 off 49 balls with three sixes and five fours in his innings to win the man of the match award. He was assisted by skipper Dasun Shanaka who scored 33 off 23 balls with three sixes and three fours.
With this victory, the number of victories of the Dambulla team is recorded as 3 while this was the third defeat of the Kandy Tuskers.
Tuskers made 156 runs in their 20 overs. Kusal Mendis scored 55 off 45 balls with 4 fours and 2 sixes while skipper Kusal Perera scored 41 off 34 balls to help the Kandy Tuskers score 86 runs in the first 10 overs. .
However, the Dambulla Vikings bowlers were able to hold the Tuskers to grips with Ramesh Mendis’ dismissal of Kusal Perera. The Tuskers batsmen faced an unforeseen crisis as the Dambulla bowlers, led by Kasun Rajitha, bowled with precision and kept all the catches safe.
Fast bowlers Kasun Rajitha, spinners Ramesh Mendis and Samith Patel, who did not get a chance to play in the first two matches, managed to keep the score below six runs. Kasun Rajitha took 2 wickets for 16 runs while Ramesh Mendis took one wicket for 21 runs in 4 overs.
