Chris Chris Gayle Gayle to return against Against Sri Sri Lanka

Chris Gayle is expected to return to the West Indies Twenty20 squad for the first time in two years. The West Indies will announce a squad this weekend, but have hinted that he will play in the three-match Twenty20 series against Sri Lanka, and Gayle has already announced his plans with PSL Gladiators to head to the Caribbean.

Like the other members, Gayle undergoes a fitness assessment before the final squad is named. If he does, this will be the first time he has represented the West Indies in any way since August 2019, when he played an ODI against India; He last played in a Twenty20 international against England in March 2019.

Gayle will return to Pakistan on March 7 for the remainder of the PSL series after the final Twenty20 match against Sri Lanka.

The future of the 41-year-old Gayle – internationally and otherwise – has been under constant discussion since the 2019 World Cup. Prior to the tournament, he had said that the World Cup would be his last one-day international. After the tournament, he made his ODI debut against India, scoring 72 off 41 balls before batting.

He took a short break from all cricket at the end of that year but when he returned to the Bangladesh Premier League in January 2020, he said he was still open for a return to the West Indies squad. He would have been 42 years old if he had played in the Twenty20 World Cup.
