Praveen Jayawickrama’s fairytale entry could hit jackpot for ICC Player of the Month Award

For Sri Lanka’s record breaking Test debutant, Praveen Jayawickrama, who burst into international cricket in a spellbinding fairytale roller coaster Test debut record breaking 11 wicket match haul, it could well be the harvest to an as fabulous ICC global award that would set him in an unique groove of valour.

Indeed, the tilt just on the blocks has set up the sensational 22-year old Sri Lankan discovery in the art of leg-break bowling, for international stardom if he wins the coveted International International Cricket Council (ICC) Player of the Month for May. To get there, Jayawickrama has to get past two other nominees –   Pakistan’s Hasan Ali who claimed 14 wickets from two Tests against Zimbabwe, and Bangladesh’s Mushfiqur Rahim of Bangladesh, who played one Test and three One Day Internationals (ODIs) against Sri Lanka and helped his country win their first ODI series against Sri Lanka scoring 125 in the second ODI.
