India won the first T20I against Sri Lanka by 38 runs at Colombo to go 1-0 up in the 3-match T20I series on Sunday. Bhuvneshwar Kumar was the star performer from India as the veteran pacer scalped four wickets and gave just 22 runs in 3.3 overs. Bhuvneshwar was also the player of the match for his terrific effort in the middle.
Deepak Chahar got two wickets while all other Indian bowlers got one wicket apiece. From Sri Lanka, Charith Asala was the top scorer, he scored a quickfire 44 runs from just 26 balls including 3 fours and 3 sixes. Earlier in the first innings, Sri Lankan bowlers restricted India to a decent total of 164 runs. Suryakumar Yadav scored his second T20I fifty that helped India to accelerate the innings in the middle overs.
The two teams will now face up in the second T20I on July 27 at the same venue.
