Former WI cricketer Winston Benjamin’s son Rai bags silver medal at Tokyo 2020 in 400m hurdles

Rai Benjamin, who is the son of former West Indies cricketer Winston Benjamin has bagged the silver medal in the men’s 400m hurdles in Tokyo 2020. Talking of the same event, Karsten Warholm of Norway smashed his own previous record and recorded 45.94 seconds this time to set a new world record in the same category.

Benjamin, who stood second on the podium recorded 46.17 seconds, half a second faster than any hurdler in history. 46.72 seconds of Alison Dos Santos would also have been a world record, five weeks back. In the same manner, all the three medal holders of the event went on to touch a new high.

Benjamin is the son of Winston Benjamin of Antigua cricketer who played 21 Tests and 85 ODIs for West Indies. He played his last ODI against England in 1995 after having a career with the national side that revolved for nine years.
