Tit for Tat was a costly mistake that England has learned in the last Test against India at Lords. Verble abuse, and giving way to emotions is not the way in Cricket.
Take for example the great West Indian sides they were never verble on the field. Never used unparliamentary language be it a top-order batsman or a latecomer in the lower order. The ball did the talking, or the willow when batting.
David Gower, a gentleman who played with the spirit of Cricket, has stated that Joe Root let his emotions dictate terms by not instructing his bowlers to bowl yorkers, length deliveries or back of a length, at both Jasprit Bumrah and Mohamed Shami, the Indian tail-enders. Come on England not the Helmut but the stumps that matter.
Gower also stated , England was a wanting by setting boundary riders and giving singles to both Bumrah and Shami, like as easy as buying Newspapers from a bookstall downtown in England.
Would the bookmakers have ever imagined an unbroken 89 run partnership by two tail enders when the Indian top order struggled on day 4?
Tit for Tat , because Bumrah got James Anderson jumping around at the crease, and to add salt to the wound you are more focused on talking, than settling a trap? It’s comic not cricket.
Yes gone are the days when India took this type of bullying from England and even Australia, but now they give it back, as much as they get because they too have the firepower with pace and spin.
Joe Root will do well, to take a leaf from Kane Williamson on the importance of respecting your opponent. Rahul Dravid the great Indian icon made mention of this during India’s tour of Sri Lanka recently.
So come on England play Proper Cricket against an outfit that is far superior than you, because your fans richly deserve your support, for the time and money they spend to watch you play.
