Sri Lanka Cricket to play a women’s premier league

Sri Lanka Cricket has decided to invite bids from sports management/marketing agencies to host a franchise-based women’s league cricket tournament such as the Lankan Premier League in Sri Lanka.

Sri Lanka Cricket is planning to hold the tournament in October this year and the qualifiers for the 2022 Women’s World Cup will begin in November.

According to the advertisement on the website of Sri Lanka Cricket, there will be 4 teams participating in the tournament and each team will consist of 16 players.

A maximum of 6 players from foreign teams with ICC membership can be included in the squad. The total number of matches to be played in the tournament is 13. The tournament will be held in Dambulla or Pallekele.

Since the Twenty20 Women’s World Cup in March 2020, the Sri Lankan women’s national team has not played in any international matches and Sri Lanka Cricket has hosted only one women’s domestic first division tournament.
