Yupun clocked 10.25sec at Diamond League in Zurich

Turning a new page in the history of Sri Lankan athletics, sprint champion Yupun Abeykoon competed in the final of the 2021 Diamond League season today (10). He competed in the 100m final of the tournament in Zurich.

Yupun Abeykoon finished ninth with a time of 10.25 seconds. Fred Kerley of the United States finished first in 9.87 seconds.

Canadian superstar Andre De Grasse took second place (9.89 seconds) and third place went to American Ronnie Baker (9.91 seconds).

Due to his prowess on the European track and field, Yupun became the first Sri Lankan to make it to the Diamond League Championships in Italy.

Yupun finished fourth in 10.16 seconds. Thanks to those skills, Yupun was one of the best athletes in the 100m event of the Diamond League this season and qualified for the finals.

Yupun, who holds the Sri Lankan and South Asian records in the 100 meters, became the first Sri Lankan to win the Olympic title in the 100 meters after 25 years and represented the country at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
