Sri Lanka who made a modest total of 120 runs for 8 Wickets, were simply not good enough, to defend the runs they made. The South African openers Reeza Hendricks and Quinton de Kock made a meal of a hapless Sri Lankan bowling attack to win by 10 Wickets with 32 balls to spare.
A 121 run opening partnership between De Kock and Hendricks is a record in it self. Whilst the Sri Lankans huffed, puffed and looked confused on this pitch , it seemed that the South African openers were batting on a different surface.
It was an exibition of how to play this format , which sadly Sri Lanka seems to have no clue.
Many accolades were given to some players in the domestic tournament concluded just before this series, but little did the selectors or the pundits foresee the standards of domestic cricket against what you face in the international arena.
Big questions will have to be addressed if Sri Lanka want to qualify for the super 12 in the forthcoming T 20 World Cup. At this point in time unless otherwise some drastic decisions are taken Sri Lanka going through looks bleak.
Is Dhananjaya de Silva a good option for this format ? Is Hasaranga an all rounder ? Do the players know what is expected of them in the park ? Are they commited ? Does Dasun Shanaka know this game , does he know the importance of responsibility ? Is Sri Lanka who proudly bid good bye to the more experienced players and put their hopes in youngsters for this format have proved they have done the right thing with the world cup in hand ? I am not by any means suggesting the three players who were suspended, because they were a bad example , but we still had some experienced players the selectors could have recalled or looked at.
Being 2014 world champions, eye brows will be raised if sri Lanka dont qualify for the Super 12.
