Yupun Abeykoon has achieved a career-best World Ranking of 40 with the conclusion of his Diamond League performance at the finals held last week. His previous career-best rank was 42 and he was 45th last week.
Yupun became the first Sri Lankan to participate in the Diamond League and qualified to the finals at Weltlkasse Zurich. Though he came 9th place, he finished with a timing of 10.25 seconds and received 1214 points to go up the World Ranks.
Yupun Abeykoon has many achievements under his belt and has proven himself once again to be a world class athlete. Though he did not perform his best at the Olympics, he was a consistent performer in the other events in Europe and has worked hard to achieve this rank. These points differ on event types, rank achieved, and overall performance.
As the reigning fastest South Asian with a personal best timing of 10.15 seconds, his season came to an end last and finished on a high with his personal best world ranking. He will be looking forward to the next major events such as the Commonwealth Games and Asian Games happening next year.
